STAYING SAFE AWARDS-Community Help Point Scheme

We are delighted to announce that CHPS was awarded Children & Young People's Award 2008

Established in 2007, a pioneering scheme initiated by Claire Whetstone-Director of ECYPS, teamed up with Disabled Children's Joint Services, The Police Youth & Partnership Team, Local Safeguarding Board and Children's Fund. The CHPS scheme provides safe havens for vulnerable young people in Enfield. The aim of the scheme is to support young people in raising their awareness of personal safety issues, to facilitate the safe travel of young people with diverse support needs.   If you are a young person out and about in Enfield and in need of assistant then help is at hand.......look out for the distinctive blue and white sticker in shops, libraries, businesses etc.   For a full list of locations contact Shafiqul.  If you are a local business and would like to take part contact Shafiqul for an information pack.

With the departure of Peter Lewis as director, the following interim arrangements are now in place:

Grants to Support Small, New and Emerging Voluntary Organisations)
The Trust for London is an independent charitable trust set up in 1986 to
support small, new and emerging voluntary organisations which have been
established to improve the lives of people and communities in London. The
Trust for London is now accepting applications and are seeking to fund
areas of work which have one or more of the following aims: challenge
discrimination faced by disabled people; promote the inclusion and
integration of recently established communities; strengthen mother-tongue
and supplementary schools to provide creative educational opportunities;
address new and emerging needs. The maximum that organisations can apply
for is £15,000. The next application deadlines is the 30th May 2009....

Community Cash Awards ( UK )

Young people are being given the chance to claim a share of £1 million to help tackle the dangers of drugs, crime and play a positive role in their community. The Royal Bank of Scotland Community Cash Awards will see £1 million of grants being distributed by youth charity “The Prince’s Trust” to young people who want to run community projects in some of Britain ’s poorest areas. The Awards, worth £250 to £5,000, are available to disadvantaged 14 to 25-year-olds who want to transform their area and learn practical skills. Projects could range from improving local youth facilities to sex education workshops in schools. Projects must:

•  Be run and managed by people between the ages of 14 and 25
•  Clearly benefit the local community
•  Benefit the people running the project
•  Be a new or developing project.

Previous projects supported include; an amateur boxing project to give young people greater confidence, and a media project to promote community cohesion and greater understanding between the local community and asylum seekers. Applications can be made at any time.

Enfield Grassroots Grants Programme

Due to the current economic climate, the Minister for the Third Sector has announced two key changes to the £130m Grassroots Grants programme. The programme which provides grants of to local community groups will now be available to groups with an income of up to £30,000 per year (up from £20,000). In addition, the Government will increase the amount it match funds private donations to the Endowment Challenge element of the Grassroots programme from 50 p for every pound donated to a £ for £ basis. The Grassroots Programme provides grants of between £250 - £5,000 to local community groups for a wide range of activities including:

Parks for People Programme Opens for Applications

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has announced that the next closing date for applications to the Parks for People programme is the 31st August 2009 for a decision in December 2009.

Launched originally as a joint initiative with the Big Lottery Fund full responsibility for the programme will pass to the Heritage Lottery from April 2009. Local Authorities as well as not for profit organisations that own public parks and gardens can apply for grants of between £250,000 and £5 million for the regeneration of parks and public gardens (including squares, walks and promenades). Applicants will need to raise at least 30 % of the project costs from their own sources and partnership funding, either as cash or non-cash contributions.

The ‘Parks for People’ programme has a two-stage application process. If a Stage One Pass is awarded, applicants can submit a Stage 2 application.

Sportsmatch Announces 2009/10 Funding Round

Sportsmatch, which is funded by Sport England to support the development of grassroots sport has announced that it is now seeking applications for funding for 2009/10. Through the scheme, Sportsmatch offers pound for pound matched funding to investments made by businesses, trusts and individuals into projects that encourage sports participation at grass roots level. The funding available is primarily for running costs (maximum grant £100,000) although capital awards of up to £25,000 can be made through the scheme. This can include non personal sports equipment such as:

•  outdoor basketball nets
•  kwik cricket surfaces
•  boats
•  sports wheelchairs etc.

The scheme is open to community based sports projects, in particular those that benefit young people, disability groups, black and minority ethnic groups and/or women and girls.

Applications can be submitted at any time.

Hilton in The Community Foundation

Organisations that work with young people have the opportunity to apply for grants of up to £50,000 per year through the Hilton Foundation. During 2006, the Foundation made grants totalling over £1.3m to numerous organisations including registered charities and schools for activities and projects that meet one of the Foundation’s three chosen areas of focus:

•  Young People – Education
•  Young People – Health
•  Disaster Relief and International Fund.

Previously supported projects by the Foundation have included; The Palmer Junior School, which received a grant of £2,740 to help send 11 young people on a school field trip, who could otherwise not afford it, and The Red Gates School, which received a grant of £750 for specialist equipment at the school. The next closing date for applications is the 5th May 2009 .

B&Q - The One Planet Living Awards
The B&Q One Planet Living Awards are launched every January and offer between £1,000 and £10,000 of B&Q products to organisations which are working on projects that aim to enhance the local community or help 'us' to return to ‘One Planet Living.’ The awards are open to community-based projects which can demonstrate that their project falls into one of the following project categories; the environment/energy saving; natural habitats and wildlife; and local culture/heritage: projects which will support, enhance and celebrate valuable aspects of local culture and heritage including its roots and traditions, local buildings, local building techniques, local produce and local arts and crafts. To apply for a grant, applicants will need to contact the environmental champion or store manager at their local B&Q store to discuss project details.
